Certain figurines and vases may also be extremely cheap if you look in the right places, like dollar stores. Grab some not-quite-wilting flowers from your local florist at a discount and toss them in a vase or urn with water and place them in the center of your dining table. Using oil lamps and glass candle holders can create a more peaceful ambiance as well.
Vintage Metal Floor Lamps: Old industrial lamps of the kind that lit medical offices long ago are useful as well as decorative. Overhead fixtures are often unflattering and not useful for many activities. These lamps don't need to be refurbished or shined up. Their vintage quality brings character to a room.
Stone - in all of nature's colors - is a beautiful and durable material to use in tiles for counter tops, flooring and accessories. Tumbled, matte or polished travertine, marble and granite are popular choices. A good, local faux painter can even create areas that appear to be made of stone. This technique works well in entryways, leading up a staircase, in wine cellars and kitchens.
Remember not to leave out any small part of your home when you are decorating. You want to cover your home with beautiful and affordable home decor. This includes the living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms. You can even try having a small garden by your front door to liven up the place, and it is very inexpensive to do so. For example, Marigolds can be bought for pennies!
